Waste-to-energy plant to produce 25-30MW: BMC

The waste-to-energy plant at Deonar is expected to produce 25-30 megawatt by processing 3,000 metric tonnes of garbage every day, said the municipal corporation on Tuesday.

The BMC, which has appointed Tata Consulting Engineers for over Rs 50 lakh to suggest measures for waste disposal using scientific methods at the Deonar dumping ground, made a PowerPoint presentation before BMC chief Ajoy Mehta and top civic officials. The consultants said that only 14.2 hectares of the 120-hectare Deonar dumping ground would be required to set up the waste-to-energy plant.Repeated fires at the Deonar dumping ground earlier this year has emphasised the need for scientific processing of waste, said civic officials.
