Waste-to-energy plant to come up at Ghazipur

NEW DELHI: Delhi government has decided to set up a waste to energy plant at the Ghazipur polutry and fish wholesale market to convert about 10 tonnes of organic waste into biogas and compost. "We have decided to set up an eco-friendly waste management system at the mandi. The mandi produces about 10 tonnes of waste each day that finds its way to the Ghazipur landfill site. We had set up a committee last year, with members from IIT, DSIIDC, the municipal corporations and government officials. It submitted its report in December 2015. We have decided to adopt Bhabha Atomic Research Centre's (BARC) Nisarguna technology for handling the waste," said development minister Gopal Rai.
