State power utilities ready to meet demand up to 9,000 MW

Energy Minister G. Jagadish Reddy has stated that the power utilities in Telangana are ready to meet demand up to 9,000 MW during the ongoing summer season and the early kharif operations.

Speaking after a review meeting with officials of the Genco, Transco and Discoms here on Tuesday, the Minister said that the peak demand of power had been ranging between 6,700 MW to 7,200 MW due to the peaking summer demand from the domestic sector and with the implementation of nine-hour free power supply to the farm sector.

The peak demand was expected to touch 9,000 MW in the event of good monsoon as those cultivating irrigated crops with the help of groundwater were likely to avail nine-hour supply completely. The government has made all arrangements, including power purchase from private producers so that supply could be ensured to all consumers without any interruption, the Minister stated.
