EDF EN commissions 251MW of solar, wind energy projects in India

These renewable projects include five wind projects located in the state of Gujarat, totalling 164MW and three solar projects totalling 87MW in the states of Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh.

The solar projects are held by EDEN, a joint venture between EDF EN and EREN Renewable Energy. 

The three solar plants generating 87MW can generate enough energy to be supplied to 120,000 households. Two out of the three plants are located in the State of Uttarakhand in Northern India, each with an installed capacity of 36MW. The third solar plant with a capacity of 15MW is located in the State of Madhya Pradesh.

The five wind farms, which were commissioned in April this year, consist of a total of 82 turbines and are claimed to be located in one of the windiest regions in India. The wind farms, as per EDF EN generate enough electricity to be supplied to 460,000 Indian households.

The wind farms in Gujarat have been constructed under an agreement with EDF EN and SITAC Wind Management and Development and both the companies own an equal amount of stake in them.

Energy generated from the wind farms will be supplied to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL), the state’s distribution utility, under a 25 year power purchase agreement (PPA).

Power generated from the two solar plants in Uttarakhand will be supplied to 25 year PPA to local transmission system operator Uttarakhand Power Corporation (UPCL) and in Madhya Pradesh to Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) for the third solar plant.
