BSES Rajdhani to buy 100 MW wind power from Power Trading Corp

New Delhi: BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL), a joint venture power distribution company of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. and the government of Delhi, on Thursday signed a deal to purchase 100 megawatt (MW) of wind power from state-owned Power Trading Corp., BRPL said.

Power Trading Corp. will start supplying the power to BRPL from 18 November 2018 for 25 years at a tariff of Rs3.46 a unit, the lowest for wind power so far in the country, said a statement from BRPL.

The contracted power will be delivered through an inter-state transmission system that will source power from wind power projects set up in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. Power distribution companies are required to buy a part of their total power procured from renewable sources, a norm meant to promote clean energy. However, clean energy cost has been declining over the last few years and is now on par with conventional power.

“BRPL has taken the lead in Delhi in championing the cause of wind power. This agreement will help the company fulfill its renewable purchase obligations, the statement said quoting BRPL chief executive officer Amal Sinha.
